The summary of the first Barometer was released in 2023, with the details published in early 2024. And the exercise derives from the 2021 MISTRA publication, Marriages of Inconvenience: The Politics of Coalitions in South Africa. 

The second Barometer differs from the first one not only in the granularity of data, and clarity of variables and analysis. It also covers national and provincial coalitions, for the period after the 2024 election.
