Youth in South Africa Book Launch
23 November 2021
Zoom
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
The Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Reflection (MISTRA) invites you to the launch of MISTRA’s latest research publication entitled, Youth in South Africa: Agency, (in)visibility and national development.
This research-based volume, edited by Professor Ariane De Lannoy, Professor Malose Langa and Dr Heidi Brooks, takes stock of the nation’s development as it affects young people, and brings together the work of researchers, practitioners and activists, many of whom are young people themselves. The authors offer both personal and professional insights into the ways in which the youth navigate their own pathways to adulthood.
The book sets out the youth policy environment, the historic background to the youth’s role in national development, the structural challenges facing many young people, the resilience, agency and engagement that they demonstrate as societal and economic participants, and some of the processes of identity formation that young people engage in.
Youth in South Africa: Agency, (in)visibility and national development seeks to chart a way forward that re-imagines the role of young people and makes the case for policy instruments to be informed by the lived experiences of the youth.
