Understanding South Africa’s Democratic Trajectory Report Launch
15 October 2020
11:00 am - 1:00 pm
The Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Reflection (MISTRA) in partnership with the Open Society Foundation for South Africa (OSF-SA) would like to invite you to the launch of the report, Understanding South Africa’s Democratic Trajectory: A comparative analysis of post-colonial societies.
The report is based on research by MISTRA and seeks to understand democratic consolidation in South Africa against the backdrop of experiences in Mozambique, Algeria and India. The report empirically examines whether South Africa’s democratic trajectory is exceptional and/or comparable to other post-liberation experiences. It identifies those traits that have shaped the emergent trajectories of the selected cases and discusses the corresponding implications for the consolidation of constitutional democracy in South Africa.
