The Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Reflection (MISTRA), in partnership with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FESSouth Africa, is pleased to invite you to a research workshop on the Transition to a Low-Carbon Economy Scenarios taking place on the 10th July 2018 at Cedarwoods of Sandton.

The Low-Carbon Economy Scenarios explore possible answers to the key question, ‘How do we build a just transition toward a socially inclusive economy by 2063?’ by looking at how South Africa can manage the transition to an economy characterised by low-carbon emissions. This research workshop, forms part of a series of activities aimed at synthesising more research on this key question.

Twenty participants have been interviewed, and the findings from these interviews, and consultation with the project’s reference team, have been used to confirm the first draft of possible scenario variables.  Participants have included representatives from the private, public and civil society sectors, including researchers and academics. The research workshop will delve into some of the factors that participants identified as highly uncertain, highly impactful, or requiring further investigation.

The feedback and insights provided by this research workshop will be integrated into the variables, to yield the ‘second draft variables’. The research workshop will draw together experts from various sectors, offering a platform for rigorous and creative engagement.
