Roundtable

Roundtable on Public Procurement and Black Entrepreneurship in South Africa

4 May 2021

Zoom

11:30 am - 1:30 pm

Last year February, MISTRA launched a publication on Beyond Tenderpreneurship: Rethinking Black Business and Economic Empowerment. In addition to MISTRA’s submission to National Treasury on the Procurement Bill, we plan to host a follow up discussion on the use of public procurement to achieve structural reform and market restructuring in the broad political economy of South Africa on the 4th of May 2021.

The objectives of the roundtable are to:

  • deliberate on the links between black entrepreneurship support, local economic development, and economic restructuring;
  • debate ways to develop market intelligence for black-owned informal businesses and SMMEs;
  • identify pathways to informal and formal business success in the country for young entrepreneurs;
  • discuss pathways for job creation through entrepreneurship; and
  • debate the recently published Public Procurement Bill.

The discussion will be led by editors of the publication Ayabonga Cawe and Khwezi Mabasa.
