Roundtable

Platinum Group Metals (PGM) & Fuel Cell Applications

28 September 2016

Protea Hotel Midrand, 14th Street, Noordwyk Ext 20, Midrand

9:00 am - 1:00 pm

The Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Reflection (MISTRA) will be hosting a Roundtable on Platinum Group Metals (PGM) & Fuel Cell Applications to explore the development of this industry.

MISTRA is aware of a number of initiatives being undertaken by stakeholders in this emerging sector. The Roundtable will therefore, facilitate a discussion on the enhancement and integration of the varied efforts by the stakeholders around fuel cell technology and the Hydrogen Economy, with emphasis on their applications in various markets: residential, industry and transportation. We expect attendance from a range of stakeholders in this sphere including, inter alia, academics, business, government and science councils.

MISTRA is convening this Roundtable to develop an understanding on how each stakeholder could participate in the initiative, in order to avoid duplication of efforts.

The Roundtable will, amongst other issues, address the following topics:

  • Commercialisation of locally developed fuel cell components/products
  • Continuing research on fuel cell stationary application
  • Capacity to manufacture fuel cells, including components for other manufacturers
  • Learnings from current pilot projects
  • Interventions to ensure optimal market demand for the fuel cells in the public and private sectors
  • Establishment of PGM Special Economic Zones (SEZ)
