MISTRA’s Tenth Anniversary Conference
31 August 2021
Zoom
10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Over ten years ago, a group of South Africans came together with a vision for a new intellectual platform – a strategic, independent and transdisciplinary home for thinkers to explore long-term solutions to the challenges facing our young democracy. They formed the Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Reflection (MISTRA), committed to exploring what makes a nation succeed.
MISTRA undertook a daring interrogation of issues of nation-formation, economic growth and social equity, as well as arts, culture, science and technology.
Ten years later, MISTRA is proud of its contribution to South Africa’s reservoir of knowledge, and is seeking to chart its way forward for the next decade. To this end, it is convening a conference of thinkers like yourself to help identify the lessons of the last ten years, and to reaffirm MISTRA’s vision in the face of a pandemic, the Anthropocene, inequality and poverty, skewed the allocation of resources for strategic research on challenges facing humanity and the menace of geopolitics – all these and many other issues merging into a volatile mix of threat and opportunity for human civilisation.
You are invited to a conference, where leaders along with other thinkers and activists, will identify the key challenges facing South Africa, and the most relevant areas where MISTRA can make a contribution. The conference will be open to invited guests only, and is intended to be one more milestone in MISTRA’s efforts to foster an intellectual movement committed to addressing the challenges of building a more equitable South Africa.
We would be honoured if you would join us.
