MISTRA is pleased to invite you to the launch of its newest book: Beyond Imagination: The Ethics and Applications of Nanotechnology and Bio-Economics in South Africa on the 11 April 2018 at the CSIR.
Beyond Imagination explains how nanotechnology and biotechnology are changing our world, often in ways we don’t know about or understand.
The book unpacks what the science of very small particles, which includes genetic modification and reconfiguring the arrangement of atoms, means for us in South Africa. How many of us know, for example, that this technology is already being employed in substances like paint, sunscreen and lipstick, with potential health implications for users? The book also examines lessons from other developing countries, like India, which is supporting these emerging technologies to foster development and build its economy.
Beyond Imagination is South Africa’s first book on nanotechnology aimed at a general as well as an academic audience. It’s a fascinating, highly-readable account of what for many of us seems like sci-fi.
