The roundtable follows the success of MISTRA’s publication entitled, South Africa and the Global Hydrogen Economy: The Strategic Role of Platinum Group Metals (PGMs). Using hydrogen fuel cells as a case study, the project probed the fundamental question of how the PGM endowment could position South Africa and the region at the forefront of the global PGM-based industrial sector.

The aim of the roundtable is to:

• bring together key partners (policy makers, intellectuals and PGM industry stakeholders) to reflect on some of the most challenging questions facing the industry
• begin to formulate answers to the question: What next?
• review and assess implementation of strategies on the PGM value chain – including fuel cell technology initiatives – in order to extract maximum possible gain for South Africa.
