Some of the themes the lecture will explore are:
- the meaning of radical economic transformation and how it relates to the structure of the South African economy, including the balance among various sectors
- ownership patterns in the economy and their inter-relationship with issues of race, class and gender as well as local community participation
- the role of fiscal authorities in economic growth and development, including the dynamic of post-tax redistribution
- monetary policy and its facilitative or constraining role in economic transformation
- the place of pre-tax interventions including an income policy pertaining to enterprise income differentials and the issue of a minimum wage
- the relationship between economic growth and inclusivity and whether these can be mutually supportive.
