Joint Roundtable on the Blue Economy with Prof. Gunter Pauli
Monday, 30th June 2014
9.00am – 1.00pm
South African Reserve Bank Conference Centre, 370 Helen Joseph Street, Pretoria
The Mapungubwe Institute (MISTRA), in partnership with the South African Reserve Bank, the Department of Science and Technology and SASOL, is planning to hold the second Blue Economy Roundtable with renowned economist Prof. Gunter Pauli.
This gathering follows on the presentation shared by Prof. Pauli in May 2013 under the theme “Innovations in South Africa: Realising the Potential for Job Creation”. Prof. Pauli will reflect on some of the cases he has worked on in South Africa and around the world, including on human settlements, energy and mining.
The concept of the Blue Economy offers a vision of a sustainable future with new and inclusive ways of doing business that sees opportunities where societies see problems. With no subsidies, it includes the creation of jobs as well as the growth of social capital and income – without further exploiting the environment, but rather by conserving and improving it.
