The Mapungubwe Institute for Strategic Reflection (MISTRA) is pleased to share with you its first Newsletter for 2020. At the time of writing this newsletter, South Africa is fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. Though the country is operating under a state of disaster, anxiety and uncertainty, it has become even more crucial to support our economy. For this reason, even during this “business unusual phase” we would still like to update you on the work of MISTRA. As an Institute, we have made the decision to continue our business with as little interruption as possible.
The year 2020 marks the tenth anniversary of MISTRA’s existence and we are extremely delighted to celebrate this milestone with you. As we begin our journey towards our new growth trajectory, we remain focused on our pursuits as the strategic ‘go-to’ think tank through enhanced impact of our core research, facilitation of social compacting and scenario planning.
After the COVID-19 crisis, we will be looking forward to celebrating MISTRA’s 10th anniversary with you. We will share plans for this with you in due course.
For this issue we report on:
- MISTRA’s response to COVID-19
- the recent launch of MISTRA’s latest research reports, Africa and the World: Navigating Shifting Geopolitics and Beyond Tenderpreneurship: Rethinking Black Business and Economic Empowerment;
- the Department Sports, Arts and Culture Social Compact Convention that was facilitated by MISTRA;
- opinion pieces by MISTRA staff published in the media.
