More than a month has passed since the ANC held its fourth National General Council (NGC) at the Gallagher Estate in Midrand. In the interim, a number of provincial and regional conferences have followed in various parts of the country. This includes KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and the Eastern Cape’s regions of OR Tambo, Buffalo City and Joe Ggabi.

The latter two are the largest regions in a province that formerly had the biggest ANC membership. That distinction now belongs to KZN. It claimed it in 2012 en route to Mangaung, where Jacob Zuma was re-elected ANC president over the conscientious Kgalema Motlanthe.
